I Dropped Everything and Moved to Hawaii

Letting trust be my guide

It’s fascinating how the Universe has it’s way of taking you where you need to be. Less than two weeks ago, I was living in my luxury apartment in downtown Bend. Today I am free floating on the island of Kauai in my 98’ Subaru. I don’t know where I’ll be a year from now; what I do know is that the only constant in life is change.

It has been a hot minute since I have posted, primarily due to an inner and outer transformation I have been undergoing in the last month. It has been hectic, beautiful, and spontaneous. I had a difficult time trying to write out my experience while in the midst of it; I truthfully didn’t know what to make of everything.

I have been rather inspired since arriving on the island; not only from the picturesque beaches and scenery, but also because of the inexplicable energy here that fuels my creativity. This means you’ll gradually be seeing more content from me!

It is my intention to share my ever growing journey with you as to stay connected to the collective, but also as a creative outlet for me to contemplate on the pathways I have chosen to take. So that is the purpose of today’s article: to update you, as well as to jot down some reflections on this previous phase of my life.

I could go into depth on the logistics of why my boyfriend, Stuey, and I chose to up and leave Bend. The details would probably bore you to death, so I won’t subject you to that. To break it down, there were 3 simple reasons:

  1. Our landlord gave us a 30 day notice (we were on a short term lease)
  2. We felt ready for a change in scenery
  3. There’s no better place to live on a budget than the islands- believe it or not

So, us being rather spontaneous and intuitive people, set out to make the move. We decided we were ready to leave within two weeks. We got rid of a bunch of our belongings, put the rest in a storage unit, sold our trusty steed, bought our tickets, and before we knew it, we were on the beach in 80 degree weather.

There were certainly external events that drove us to leave the mainland but the main influence was the inner transformation I previously mentioned. Another topic I could write a book about but here’s the summary:

Ever since living on the Oregon Coast and Big Island, I have had an inner knowing that I belong by the Ocean. The beach has and always will be a release for me; a safe haven, if you will.

Me, in my natural habitat

Ironically, the Universe guided me to a mountain town in Central Oregon about a year ago. Bend is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I have been to. It is also my birth town, so I may or may not be biased. My summer there was filled with high desert adventure, floating down the river, growing hemp. It was awesome.

Taken while exploring Cascade Lakes
Overlooking the city of Bend and it’s glorious sunset
Drinking some local beer in the Cascade Lakes
The hemp jungle I spent my days in

As winter kicked in, the mountain parks started closing and I was limited to my adventures because of the snow (I owned a 2008 Chevy Impala- not ideal). I found myself spending more and more time inside, avoiding the icy roads and having to put 3 jackets on before walking out the door. I admit, I am somewhat of a baby when it comes to the cold.

This was challenging for me, as I didn’t have the ocean to escape to and I usually prefer to be outside. Although it didn’t feel right at the time, in retrospect, I know that it was.

Separating myself from a release as powerful as the ocean required me to start looking inward for my healing. Instead of relying on nature, I had to explore the deepest depths of my soul to find comfort. Granted, it was messy. There were suppressed emotions that I hadn’t dealt with for years including lingering grief from the death of my mom, feelings of abandonment from both my parents, and underlying limiting thoughts that have prevented me from my highest potential.

I am being transparent about this experience because I have come to realize that this is an inevitable aspect of life. Everyone has a “shadow self” as well as programs that separate us from our highest being. It is positive to acknowledge this, as it is the first step toward inner growth. Even the most revered spiritual teachers, including Jesus, Buddha, and Terrence Mckenna have had periods of deep reflection in order to ascend to their highest consciousness.

I must say, after looking so deep within, I have come out of it with more understanding than ever. It’s as though the periodical darkness drove me to my limits, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and led me to appreciate the light more than ever. After mending some wounds, I have been focusing on the parts of me that are well polished, and divine.

Back in my natural habitat and feeling recharged

As far as for what’s to come, I feel happily intoxicated with all the possibilities. I have a vision, but for the most part, I am simply waking up everyday and trusting. Trusting in the Universe, that it’ll provide all of the perfect opportunities. Trusting that abundance is running toward me. But mostly trusting myself, and my ability to bring my desires into reality.

If you are pushing through the roughs or aren’t feeling aligned with your surroundings, do not forget that divine order has you there for a reason. If you were in constant paradise, you wouldn’t feel the need to look deep within, and assess the parts of you that require recognition and healing. I promise though, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. When you do find it, it’ll be one of the most vibrant lights you’ve ever seen.

I can’t wait to share more of my journey with you as I continue to pursue my passions and soak up the Aloha energy. I am going to have much more time and resources to create powerful content that will inspire you on your journey, as you attract confidence, strength, contentment, health, and abundance in your life.

I always love to hear from you! As I grow Rooted Health & Healing, I will always consider it a community and place of support and inspiration. That’s going to take more than just my voice, so I am open to collaborations, ideas, or even just transformative conversations. I hope you have a beautiful week and know that you are divine.

Hi there, it’s me again! It has been one crazy week, but right now I’m sitting in the sun by the river, sipping on hemp milk matcha, watching the leaves fall, and am feeling inspired to touch basis with you about a topic that changed my life.

A few days ago, I turned 21 years old! I went out with my boyfriend, some family, and a few friends. Twenty first birthdays are well known to be hectic for most, and I think that would have to be an understatement regarding my experience. Let’s just say I’m glad to be home and have a fresh start before I begin knocking out some goals. As I ease back into daily responsibilities, I am having to utilize some of the more effective methods to gain my focus back.

I feel inclined to share with you one of the most powerful tools I’ve come across throughout my spiritual journey. It is the power of language, otherwise known as affirmations.

I discovered affirmations before I really knew of their potential. Whenever I went to my grandparent’s house as a kid, I would find sticky notes all over the fridge, on bathroom mirrors, and so on. Written in my grandma’s perfect handwriting would entail a powerful statement as simple as “I am loved”.

At the time, I didn’t understand the concept to its fullest capacity, yet I still followed my grandma’s footsteps and found myself writing similar affirmations in my journal. All I knew was that it made me feel good.

No matter your religion or spirituality, implementing affirmations into your life can be an extremely powerful practice that will develop a noticeable change in your physical reality.

In the bible, Proverbs 23:7 says “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he”.

Albert Einstein quoted “your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions”.

The Buddha proclaimed “All that we are is the result of we have thought”.

When you use affirmations, you are affirming yourself of the power you have in this world, and are providing yourself with the proper energy to manifest miracles in your life.

If you have ever gone through a rough patch where everything seemed to have been working against you, you might remember some of the thought processes that came about. You might have told yourself that you don’t deserve happiness, or that the world is a dark place. You might have affirmed whatever pain you were going through by reminding yourself and others how bad it was. At the time, you may or may not have noticed how these thoughts were renewing the negative energy and creating more problems.

For instance, I have found that when I attach myself to a negative situation(because I’m human too), I might start thinking about it in depth while I mindlessly clean the house, and before you know it, I stub my toe really hard and it becomes the cherry on top of my problems. This is an example of how negative thoughts can quickly manifest into a physical problem.

The beautiful thing is that it works the same way with positive thinking and speaking. When you choose to promote empowering and loving words, you are developing an energy within your heart and mind that is reflected in your outer world.

I’d have to say that the largest miracles in my life are a result of thinking and speaking affirmations. When I decided that I wanted to live in the tropics for awhile, I continuously told myself that I am capable of anything I set my heart to, and before I knew it, I was laying under palm trees in the white sand and thanking the Universe.

Even today, as I am working to expand my brand so that I can positively influence the world and have a career that I’m passionate about, I have to remind myself everyday that I have infinite creative energy and compassion to share with the world. My own words have become my highest source of motivation.

An important aspect of affirmations is that they are always said in present tense. Instead of saying “I will become healthy and happy”, you will say “I am healthy and happy”. Saying it in present tense allows you to really feel out what it’s like to live out your words. The feeling you have while saying it might be the most effective part of executing your goal.

Here are a few affirmations I have been using recently. I encourage you to say them out loud, or in your head, and really feel what it’s like for them to be true:

I have a healthy body, tranquil mind, and a vibrant soul.

I create happiness by appreciating the little things in life.

I am enough.

My job brings me financial abundance.

My positive attitude, confidence and hard work naturally draws in new opportunities.

I radiate success.

Life is full of love and I find it wherever I go.

I utilize my creative energy to positively impact others lives.

I don’t entertain negativity in any shape or form, I simply let it go.

My relationship is divine and my partner and I are perfectly matched.

I know that massive actions cures anything.

I am a fearless explorer and feel as though I’m always on vacation. <<< one of my favorites!

You can also create affirmations that focus on what you want to manifest in your life. Just remember to always say them in present tense, and to only use positive and empowering words.

There are many ways to implement affirmations in your life, and I believe the more creative ways you use them, the more power they hold in your life. A few ideas are:

  • Writing them on sticky notes and placing them around the house(like my grandma does)
  • Putting them in your car
  • Writing an affirmation on paper five times a day
  • Saying them to yourself in the mirror 10 times
  • Closing your eyes and meditating on the feeling your affirmation brings
  • Bringing them into the context of conversations with others
  • Empowering others with your favorite affirmations~ It feels just as good if not better
  • Create a drawing including your affirmation and color it in
  • Whatever works best for you 🙂

I genuinely believe that implementing affirmations in your practice will create an amazing change in your life, and I want to motivate you to start using them on a daily basis. Think deep and hard about the reality you want to live in, and turn that thought into a bold statement. If you feel willing to share, I’d love to know what your affirmations are for this week. I’ll be sure to get back to you and even send you a reminder next week of your chosen statement so that you don’t lose touch with your truth.

This week, my chosen statement is “I live in abundance”. I will incorporate this statement into my actions, my work, and my communication with others. It will create a shift within my life, and I will make sure to follow up with you on the impact it makes.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to improve your life by using the power of your words to reach your highest potential. Our world is ultimately a reflection of our minds and as long as we continue to have thoughts of love, growth, and abundance, the world will gradually change for the better.

I hope you have a beautiful week and really look forward to hearing back from you! If you know anyone that might benefit from the power of affirmations, feel free to forward this email or send them to my website, where this letter will temporarily be available to the public. Let’s work together to change the world.

Love,

Gabrielle
