My Healing Story

When struggles become blessings

I stared at the orange medication bottle in my hand for what seemed like a lightyear. I took a deep breath and knew what I had to do. I stood up, walked to the bathroom and dumped every tiny blue pill into the toilet; I released my life force. 

Rewind 3 years back, to 13 years old. I was sat down and informed that my mother had passed away after years of drug and alcohol addiction. My dad was in prison. I laid on my bedroom floor wondering how I was going to survive in this world if neither of my parents, the people who gave me life, could. 

At the age of 13, I felt a lack of security. I felt like no one could understand the pain or confusion I was experiencing. I thought that some people were meant to be happy, and others, not so much. 

This spiraled into a nightmare as I’m sure you can imagine. I couldn’t focus in class, I was either sleeping from emotional exhaustion or daydreaming. I dealt with what I would call now an eating disorder, coming from a place of never feeling adequate. I felt a lot of anger toward life and didn’t know how to get out of the hole I felt stuck in. 

At the age of 15, I started taking two types of ADHD medication. It killed my appetite & cloaked my personality. On days that I would run out of my prescriptions, I would feel lifeless. I continued having to up my dosage due to a growing tolerance. I was worried that I would have to take it for my whole life, or else I wouldn’t be able to function in the real world. 

Back to me, dumping my pills in the toilet. This was a pivotal moment for me. I was 16, and glimpses of light were starting to shine through. I had recently been reading about meditation and began opening my mind to new forms of spirituality. My curiosity fueled passionate research regarding any and every societal construct. This included animal agriculture, the government, big pharma, monetized religion, and how they are all so wonderfully (sarcastic) intertwined. Pandora’s box was opened. 

That moment in the bathroom was really nothing but a conscious decision. It was me, accepting the fact that my parents were human, recognizing the generational pattern of pain and confusion, and making a conscious decision to end that vicious cycle. I recognized that the medication, the self- destructive thinking, the pent up emotion; all of it, needed to be released, once and for all. 

I quit my medications cold turkey. About a month later, I adopted a plant- based lifestyle, from the decision to extend my compassion toward myself, other beings, and the planet. I meditated everyday. I delved into everything holistic health related, including but not limited to energetic healing, chinese medicine, Ayurveda, plant medicine, the medicinal properties of herbs and plant foods, combating emotional eating, and more. My confusion was replaced with passion. 

Beside my natural inquisitiveness fueling my holistic healing rampage, everything I implemented really worked. Medication, an eating disorder, unhealthy coping mechanisms; none of this worked. Meditation, plant based eating, learning mind control; these things made a drastic impact on my life. I slowly started to feel more confident, energetic, and most importantly, whole in myself.  

Ever since, growth has been beautiful but certainly not easy or comfortable. Healing hasn’t been about pretending to be perfect or having everything figured out; on the contrary. Healing is recognizing those inner wounds and saying “Hi, I see you! You are loved” and making the decision every day to mend them.

 When childhood- stemmed feelings of inadequacy arrive (which sometimes they still do), instead of being hard on myself, I give myself a mental hug and remind myself that I am enough. This is what healing has looked like for me.

 Life has become infinitely more authentic and rich because of these moments where I allow myself to feel and then loving myself for it. 

Choosing growth, delving headfirst into my passion, and moving upward instead of drowning in my thoughts: this was what saved me from the path of self destruction. 

Now, to present day, a part of aligning with my truth is responding to my purpose. This, I am confident to say, is to provide hope for those of you who are also ready to end limiting programs and habits, big or small, and live out the life you genuinely deserve. 

Witnessing and guiding the transformation in others is what I am most passionate about. For me not to be working in the field of health and healing, would be steering off my divine path. If there is anything I can thank my challenges for, it would be for revealing these truths to me. 

There are many other details of my life that have shaped me into the person I am today; these parts I have just shared are just a few stops on my journey. I intend to be vulnerable and share more as long as it displays a message of hope. 

Sharing the darkest times of my life isn’t difficult because I consider those times some of my most impactful blessings. They provided me with the clarity and strength required for me to bloom into my truest self. I now view my life challenges as opportunities to rise above and get to know myself and others on a deeper level. This extends into my practice; I will always remind my clients, friends, and loved ones that whatever you are experiencing in your life, whether it’s bliss or tribulation, it is a vital part of your journey, and the moment you truly embrace it is the moment you are liberated. 

If you have also recognized the generational pain and confusion passed down into your present life, whether it’s eating problems, drug/alcohol addiction, limiting beliefs, financial struggles, or any form of self- destruction, congratulations. Now that you know that it is there, you have the power to end it. Your choice in doing so is the decision to heal generations before you and clear the path for future generations. Choosing to love and heal yourself is actually one of the most selfless decisions you will ever make.

7 Self Love Exercises that’ll Transform your Relationships

Love yourself

I dreamt of falling in love from a young age. I watched and read fairy tales that depicted princesses who were incomplete until they found their Prince Charming. There was no happily ever after without her falling into the arms of the man of her dreams who could give her everything she had ever wanted. I saw the media (movies, celebrities, books) draw a picture of love; that I wouldn’t be whole until I found someone who could give it to me. Only after I found someone who could devote themselves and take care of me, then I would be complete.

The yearning I had to share love with someone fueled my “boy craze” through Middle School and some of High School. From crushes to seemingly “serious relationships”, I was continuously disappointed with the reality I was faced with. Many people had told me they loved me, but I still didn’t feel genuinely loved. This was confusing and made me wonder if there was something wrong with me or whoever I was with

I moved from person to person, under the impression that it just wasn’t right. Meanwhile I continued to feel the same void. A void that I was hoping someone else could fill. If only he could love me purely, meet all of my expectations, and create an intimacy that surpassed our individual needs. It existed in love stories and fairy tales. Heck, there were couples all around me portraying this picture, so why couldn’t I have it?

When I finally did meet someone who basically “fit the mold” and made me feel deeply loved, I stayed with them. For years. Only to find that it wasn’t a romance from someone else that I had been seeking the whole time. I had been craving love from myself. I realized as much as I valued the connection with that person, I would never be able to give someone the love they deserved if I couldn’t deeply care for myself.

I wasted years of my life, concerned with seeking validation from another person, when through all that time, I could’ve learned to have a healthy and beautiful relationship with my own being. Even so, those years were a necessary part of my path, and taught me a valuable lesson.

In today’s society, it is very common for us to seek acceptance and validation outside of ourselves.. Through material items, partners, money, and so on. Then we wonder why so many relationships are dysfunctional. The truth that I have learned and feel called to share with you, is that it all starts from within.

When we learn to deeply love ourselves, it all comes together. In doing so, you will realize that your body is quite miraculous, and will naturally want to feed it nourishing foods and make it stronger. You will develop compassion for yourself, which will turn into awareness and healing of past wounds. Above all, you can create an unwavering love for yourself that will reflect in your relationships and spill out onto the people you care about.

When you are in any type of dysfunctional, toxic, or under-fulfilling relationship with someone, it usually indicates that one or both people are lacking self love and awareness, and are projecting this inner lack onto the other person.

When someone doesn’t love themselves and are expecting their partner to do it for them, this leads to disappointment because the reality is that what we all are really seeking, is within. This reflects the truth: that there is a oneness, a source of intimacy within ourselves that no one else could possibly match, even if they tried.

So, learning to love yourself the way you’ve always wanted to be loved is one of the most powerful practices for improving your life and your relationships. Instead of feeling empty because you don’t have a person that appreciates every cell of your being, you will already feel so much empowerment within yourself that it won’t phase you any longer. Instead of being upset at your partner for their shortcomings and lack of ability to love you exactly the way you want them to, you will look within to see how you can improve yourself, and love them the way they deserve. You won’t have to drain others of their energy for inspiration, healing, or validation, because you will already have all of that within you.

My journey of self love is ongoing, as is most peoples’. It’s a day to day effort, and is something you can lose sight of without practice. It is our true nature to love ourselves, but we unfortunately live in a society that distracts us from that truth. It is your privilege and responsibility to reclaim your inner self appreciation. Just as you would spoil and devote your time toward a love interest with someone else, you should be doing the same for yourself.

Below I have listed seven self love practices that have greatly impacted my path and recentered my intentions in all of my relationships. I try to do at least one act of self love each day, but some days feel called to devote myself to the cause and do all of them. You will most likely feel immediately in love with yourself upon completing each exercise. Even so, consistence and long term practice will yield the most powerful results.

I encourage you to play with any of these exercises and mold them to your needs. You know better than I do what your heart is really seeking. This is just a template and a source of inspiration to help guide you back into your truth.

1. Affirmations

One of the forms of love that I’ve always craved from others since growing up is words of encouragement. “I’m proud of you”. “You are beautiful.” “You did an amazing job.” These words were like heroin to me, filling my head with dopamine and building my confidence. The only downside was that when I wasn’t frequently hearing encouraging words from my partner, parents, or teachers, I would go back into feeling bad about myself and wanting more validation. It was a constant cycle.

So, as you can imagine, it was profound for me to learn about affirmations, or the act of self empowerment through positive statements. Instead of waiting for others to validate me, I could accredit my beautiful attributes and abilities on my own.

Affirmations also helped me develop qualities that I never had by telling myself that I had the opposite of whatever I was insecure about. For instance, I’ve had a predisposition to have a hard time focusing, so I always told myself that I couldn’t focus. Now I tell myself that I have an impeccable attention span, and I really do have an easier time with completing projects (i.e. sitting down and writing a whole article).

Whether you have used affirmations or have no idea what they are, I highly encourage you to incorporate them as a daily practice, and watch the miracles they will create.

Exercise:

  • To start, affirmations should always be in present tense. Instead of saying “I will be successful”, you should say “I am successful”. The goal is to step into the feeling of already having that success or whatever positive quality you choose.
  • Deeply consider the qualities in yourself that you appreciate. Whether it’s that you’re compassionate, intelligent, or loyal. Don’t be afraid to feel that way, it is not conceited. Create a list. This will be the first set of affirmations that you will use, as a reminder of the parts of you that you already know are beautiful. Mine looks like this:
  • I am deeply compassionate for others
  • I am able to use my creativity to positively impact the world
  • I am adventurous and free spirited
  • Next, consider the qualities that you wish to build on based off of the insecurities that hold you back. If you think you are unattractive and have a hard time taking care of your body, a powerful affirmation would be “I am radiantly beautiful and treat my body with respect”. Make another list. This set of affirmations will empower you to grow and flourish into the person that you know you’re meant to be. Mine looks like this:

– I am great at focusing and completing projects

-I am healed from my past and have a bright future

-I attract abundance in all areas of my life

Now, to implement the affirmations is the most important. A few powerful ways to use these affirmations daily are:

  • Say them outloud, in the mirror if you so choose, and really feel and know that they are true.
  • Write them down repeatedly in a journal or on paper, this is a powerful way of bringing thought into physical reality.
  • Write them on sticky notes and place around your house/car/workplace (I’m sure you’re coworkers will be stoked to find them).
  • Repeat them in your head throughout the day when you need a boost of confidence.
  • The more often you implement these powerful words, the more impact they will have.

2. Solo nature walk

The outdoors have always been a release for me, and I believe the reason why is because it returns me to my true state. Before humans spoke words, we expressed ourselves through nature, whether it was through flowers or worshiping the stars. As I said, loving ourselves is in our truest character, and nature has a powerful way of bringing us back to that.

Hiking with friends and loved ones can be a great time, but going alone gives you the opportunity to reflect and soak up the details that give you the most insight.

When I am swimming in the ocean by myself, it feels incredibly healing to lay there and let the bliss permeate my body. When I am walking through the forest by myself, I contemplate the wisdom of the trees and the insignificance of my problems. When I am in the desert alone, I allow the complete and utter silence to bring me peace.

Just the act of taking the time to spend with yourself and doing something that isn’t related to making money, checking off the goal list, or having some exterior goal is an act of extreme self love.

Exercise:

Plan a solo adventure. It doesn’t need to be far away, although it can be. Set aside a few hours out of your day to immerse yourself in nature and imbibe the Earth’s energy. Bring a picnic if you’d like, it’s good to treat it as a date with yourself. If you’re prone to get stuck in your head when you’re alone, try to focus on your breath and absorb each moment. Pay attention to the details and listen to what nature has to tell you.

Be sure to go somewhere with your limit of comfort, i.e. don’t go on a full day hike in the woods unless you’re prepared and are able to protect yourself.

3. Creative hour

Having the ability to write and publish articles has been one of the most empowering opportunities I have had. I have always had so much creative energy, but no consistent outlet until I created this website and community. It has contributed to my self- love journey in ways I can’t fully articulate.

Whether you consider yourself left brain dominant or right brain dominant, we all have a source of creativity that is accessible. In fact, it is vital for our wellbeing to connect to our creative side and utilize the powers our brain offers. By ignoring your creative energy, you are suppressing your truest nature, and thus not loving yourself to the fullest extent.

Taking time out of the day to do something creative is a practice of acknowledging your magic instead of letting the world drown you out.

Exercise:

Set aside a time everyday to dedicate to accessing your creativity. What you choose to do really just depends on what makes you happy. Remember, the purpose of this is to feel self love, so it doesn’t need to feel like a chore.

Also, if you love drawing or whatever but don’t feel like you are “very good at it”, it might be healing to just do without any expectations or comparisons. There is no good art or bad art, it is all art, and is all based off of perspective.

Below is a list of ideas. Feel free to escape this list, it is only a means of inspiration. I like to a write and paint but it’s refreshing to do something new sometimes!

  • Dance to your favorite music
  • Read a new book
  • Write in a journal or online (check out my gratitude prompts further in the article)
  • Make a collage of your dreams, or whatever interests you (fashion, interior design, sports, etc.)
  • Draw. Graphite can be fun to play with!
  • Color in a coloring book – check out the coloring books at the bottom of my page
  • Get a movement prop such as a levi wand or hula hoop- also at bottom of page
  • Make music: there’s programs online such as garageband
  • DJ music (Easiest way: multiple Youtube tabs)
  • Go on a hike and make a rad video of the scenery
  • Paint! Good old Bob Ross.
  • Make jewelry
  • Learn a new instrument
  • Make a Youtube video about something you’re good at
  • Sooo many more (feel free to comment below about anything I missed or which one is your favorite!)

4. Set intentions

It is easy to get caught up in the drama of life when you don’t have a vision. Getting caught in the ego’s games is the opposite of self love. He did this, she said that- this cycle of low thinking is far from your highest potential. Loving yourself means taking control of your life and making your dreams come true. It is not staying in a 9-5 job that doesn’t fulfill you and ultimately sucks your energy.

In order to start working toward your dream life, it is important to know what you want. Like, deep down. No limitations. Then take it to the next level and turn these desires into intentions.

Setting intentions has given me my power back. I used to wait around waiting for life to get better. Now when I know my heart wants something, I set an intention  and make it happen. If it weren’t for intentions, I wouldn’t be typing this article under palm trees on a 80 degree(F) day, on an island in the middle of the ocean.

Exercise:

Intentions start with knowing what you want. Meditate on this if you need to. A good way to know is to ask yourself: If I could give anything to the love of my life what would I give them? A trip to the Bahamas? A brand new car? Long lasting health? A spa day? Whatever it is, shift into the mindset of wanting to give that to yourself. Remember, you set your own limitations.

After you know what your heart desires, write it down on a piece of paper or in a journal. Imagine what it feels like to already have these things as you write them down. Feel free to incorporate it into an affirmation by putting it into present tense, such as “I own a 2019 Tesla and I love it.” It may feel like you are lying, but as long as you really feel what it’s like for it to be true, it is guaranteed helping bring it into existence.

To build on this exercise, break down your intentions into years, months, weeks, days, etc. For instance, if you are trying to buy a 2019 Tesla by the end of the year, make that your yearly goal.

Then write down your main intention for each month to work on making that happen. It might be, “fix credit”, “get new job”, or “save money”.

Then break it down into your next week. What are your intentions for the next week to get closer to your goal? It might be “sell unnecessary belongings” or “fix up and sell current car to make more $”.

Lastly, set your daily intentions. These can be the most powerful because it will help you take immediate charge of your day, instead of getting distracted by life’s drama. It’ll give you a purpose. It might be “look into income sources” or even “buy a $1 lottery ticket”- not encouraging you to make that a habit.

All you have to do is apply your goal to this template, and focus on your intentions as often as possible.

5. Gratitude journal

It is hard to love yourself when life seems dreary and unaligned. Feeling this way can indicate that it’s ready for a change. If not, it is time to start being deeply grateful for the small blessings in your life. Gratitude raises your vibration and opens the door to transformational energy.

Practicing gratitude for just 2 minutes can be an instant act of self love, one that you will reap the benefits from immediately. It raises your awareness of the beauty of life and will encourage you to keep going through the small tribulations.

Exercise:

Get a journal that you can use to write down what you’re grateful for on a frequent basis. It is powerful to do it when you wake up and before you go to bed, but can be done whenever you feel the need. It doesn’t have to be lengthy unless you want it to. In fact, it can be single words if that’s all you have time for. As you write it down, feel the gratitude enter your mind and body. Here are a few prompts to get you started:

  • Write down 3 people that you are deeply grateful for and why
  • Write about each body part and why you are grateful you have it
  • Write about the hardest struggles you’ve gone through and why you’re grateful that they happened
  • Write about an experience that you are so grateful you had
  • Write about 5 items that you own that you are grateful to own
  • Write down all of the foods in the world that you are most grateful for
  • Write down any recent opportunities that you are grateful for
  • Write down 3 reasons you are grateful for your job(If it’s hard, might be time for a change)

6. Morning ritual

It can be a chore to wake up in the morning but it doesn’t have to be. Having a morning ritual filled with high vibration practices is a great way to stay aligned to your purpose and reconnect to your truth before you take on the day. Loving yourself means taking that time out of your day to do what is best for your health and mind. If that means waking up 30 minutes earlier, so be it.

I have been changing my morning ritual around for years to cater to whatever I need in each phase of my life. A few important focuses during a morning ritual should include quieting your mind, connecting to your spirituality, understanding your intentions, and preparing your body for the day ahead.

It will take work to implement your morning habits, so don’t be too hard on yourself if the alarm doesn’t go off(or if you press snooze here and there). It takes 21 days to make something a habit, so as you continue to do it and thoroughly enjoy it, it will become natural. Remember, it’s not a chore, it’s a act of self love.

Exercise:

Write down what an ideal morning would look like that fits in your schedule and covers all that I listed above(that’s bolded).

Here’s what mine has been looking like recently:

  1. Wake up, mentally list what I am grateful for in my head
  2. Drink a glass or bottle of water (lemon or plain)
  3. Get out of bed and stretch my body
  4. Sit down and meditate. Type of meditation depends on day.
  5. Run on the beach and jump in the Ocean
  6. Eat a nutritious meal
  7. Read an excerpt or watch a video about self growth and spirituality
  8. Find someway to thank Jah, or the higher consciousness for all that is

Just do whatever feels right.

7. Cook a meal for yourself

This might seem simple, but sometimes it is easy to forget that preparing food for yourself is a sacred and intuitive act of self love. It is listening to your body’s desires and providing it with energy to live.

While eating a pint of icecream or going out to eat can feel really good, learning to appreciate real food and prepare it exactly the way you want can be a stimulating practice.

Try to distinguish the difference between foods your body is addicted to and foods that your body healthily craving. For example, if you want to cook a box of mac n cheese, that is fine, but wouldn’t it be a stronger act of self love by eating something that’ll taste great and make you feel great?

I will provide more healthy recipes and food ideas further down the road, but here is a list of some of my favorite meals along with some tips to make it a more impactful experience.

Exercise:

Tips:

1. Meditate on what your body is craving, not what your emotions are craving.

2. Listen to your intuition and pick a meal based off what you need.

3. If you just need a box of mac n cheese, try making it from scratch and also make some collard greens. Balance is key.

4. The best investment you can make is in your health- don’t be afraid to spend a little more for high quality ingredients.

5. Lighten up the atmosphere when you cook. Play some music, drink some wine if you want. Try your best to enjoy it.

6. Use a timer if you’re prone to getting distracted.

7. Use your creativity based off of what you prefer. You don’t have to copy a recipe word for word.

8. Pretend you are a professional chef and let the plate be your canvas. Appearance is just as important as taste!

9. Before you eat, give thanks for all of the time that was put into growing and preparing your food, and give thanks to any animal’s life if you do eat meat.

10. Eat slowly. Savor each bite. Thank yourself for making such a beautiful meal.

  • A loaded veggie burger with grilled onions and the works
  • A vibrant, colorful, massive salad
  • A smoothie bowl with all the best toppings
  • Tofu scramble
  • The fattest burrito you’ve ever seen
  • Make your own pizza
  • Bake some banana bread
  • Make some lavender hemp milk: here’s my recipe

There you have it! Seven self love practices that will actually transform your relationships, with others as well as yourself.

Although yes, it is possible to meet someone that will love you deeply and care for you the way you deserve, there is no one that will understand or appreciate you the way that you are capable of doing so.

So before you expect others to love you, look inward and take care of your own emotional needs. This will raise your vibration and attract beautiful relationships into your life.

I Dropped Everything and Moved to Hawaii

Letting trust be my guide

It’s fascinating how the Universe has it’s way of taking you where you need to be. Less than two weeks ago, I was living in my luxury apartment in downtown Bend. Today I am free floating on the island of Kauai in my 98’ Subaru. I don’t know where I’ll be a year from now; what I do know is that the only constant in life is change.

It has been a hot minute since I have posted, primarily due to an inner and outer transformation I have been undergoing in the last month. It has been hectic, beautiful, and spontaneous. I had a difficult time trying to write out my experience while in the midst of it; I truthfully didn’t know what to make of everything.

I have been rather inspired since arriving on the island; not only from the picturesque beaches and scenery, but also because of the inexplicable energy here that fuels my creativity. This means you’ll gradually be seeing more content from me!

It is my intention to share my ever growing journey with you as to stay connected to the collective, but also as a creative outlet for me to contemplate on the pathways I have chosen to take. So that is the purpose of today’s article: to update you, as well as to jot down some reflections on this previous phase of my life.

I could go into depth on the logistics of why my boyfriend, Stuey, and I chose to up and leave Bend. The details would probably bore you to death, so I won’t subject you to that. To break it down, there were 3 simple reasons:

  1. Our landlord gave us a 30 day notice (we were on a short term lease)
  2. We felt ready for a change in scenery
  3. There’s no better place to live on a budget than the islands- believe it or not

So, us being rather spontaneous and intuitive people, set out to make the move. We decided we were ready to leave within two weeks. We got rid of a bunch of our belongings, put the rest in a storage unit, sold our trusty steed, bought our tickets, and before we knew it, we were on the beach in 80 degree weather.

There were certainly external events that drove us to leave the mainland but the main influence was the inner transformation I previously mentioned. Another topic I could write a book about but here’s the summary:

Ever since living on the Oregon Coast and Big Island, I have had an inner knowing that I belong by the Ocean. The beach has and always will be a release for me; a safe haven, if you will.

Ironically, the Universe guided me to a mountain town in Central Oregon about a year ago. Bend is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I have been to. It is also my birth town, so I may or may not be biased. My summer there was filled with high desert adventure, floating down the river, growing hemp. It was awesome.

As winter kicked in, the mountain parks started closing and I was limited to my adventures because of the snow (I owned a 2008 Chevy Impala- not ideal). I found myself spending more and more time inside, avoiding the icy roads and having to put 3 jackets on before walking out the door. I admit, I am somewhat of a baby when it comes to the cold.

This was challenging for me, as I didn’t have the ocean to escape to and I usually prefer to be outside. Although it didn’t feel right at the time, in retrospect, I know that it was.

Separating myself from a release as powerful as the ocean required me to start looking inward for my healing. Instead of relying on nature, I had to explore the deepest depths of my soul to find comfort. Granted, it was messy. There were suppressed emotions that I hadn’t dealt with for years including lingering grief from the death of my mom, feelings of abandonment from both my parents, and underlying limiting thoughts that have prevented me from my highest potential.

I am being transparent about this experience because I have come to realize that this is an inevitable aspect of life. Everyone has a “shadow self” as well as programs that separate us from our highest being. It is positive to acknowledge this, as it is the first step toward inner growth. Even the most revered spiritual teachers, including Jesus, Buddha, and Terrence Mckenna have had periods of deep reflection in order to ascend to their highest consciousness.

I must say, after looking so deep within, I have come out of it with more understanding than ever. It’s as though the periodical darkness drove me to my limits, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and led me to appreciate the light more than ever. After mending some wounds, I have been focusing on the parts of me that are well polished, and divine.

As far as for what’s to come, I feel happily intoxicated with all the possibilities. I have a vision, but for the most part, I am simply waking up everyday and trusting. Trusting in the Universe, that it’ll provide all of the perfect opportunities. Trusting that abundance is running toward me. But mostly trusting myself, and my ability to bring my desires into reality.

If you are pushing through the roughs or aren’t feeling aligned with your surroundings, do not forget that divine order has you there for a reason. If you were in constant paradise, you wouldn’t feel the need to look deep within, and assess the parts of you that require recognition and healing. I promise though, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. When you do find it, it’ll be one of the most vibrant lights you’ve ever seen.

I can’t wait to share more of my journey with you as I continue to pursue my passions and soak up the Aloha energy. I am going to have much more time and resources to create powerful content that will inspire you on your journey, as you attract confidence, strength, contentment, health, and abundance in your life.

The Christmas Illusion

The avoided truth of the holidays: a piece of my story

It’s that time of year again. Bright lights are permeating the streets, Christmas tunes are taking over the local radio station, and Santa Claus is somehow making a presence in every mall in the country. I can practically taste the holiday spirit, and it’s not just the peppermint bark.

It is undoubtedly a beautiful sight to watch the holiday spirit bring families together as well as highlight the essence of giving and kindness. However, although it appears as a reality shift, the truth that most will avoid is that Christmas is nothing but an illusion. It’s a social agreement to change the theme of our daily lives, and for once, designate our focus toward giving our time and resources to people we love. I’m not trying to kill your vibe, but in midst of all of this, there are individuals facing inner struggles, doing everything they can to play into the facade, even if this means burying their emotions to appear “jolly”. A holiday that is supposed to be about altruism and love becomes a time of loneliness and despair for many.

I considered writing a structured article that would bring awareness toward the holiday blues that a part of the collective experiences. Then I remembered my intentions behind sharing my writing is to really help people, even if that means being vulnerable and sharing my story so that others don’t feel alone. So that’s what I’m going to do; share my story.

I want to clarify that my intention is not to gain your sympathy, as I have countless blessings in my life and there are people that are dealing with much worse. My aim is to share a bit of my struggles so that you a) can get to know me better, b) gain some light on the real kind of love that needs to be spread, and c) have hope if you’re going through a hard time, because I got through it and so can you.

Christmas was a lively time for most of my younger years as I was fortunate enough to have a big family that would spoil me with affection and gifts. I was dazzled by the decorations and would stay up all night on Christmas eve, anticipating the excitement of the morning that laid ahead.

That all changed one year, when my dad went missing. He was gone for a few months previous to Christmas. Me, being under 10 years old and used to having him in my life, was worried about him and didn’t understand why he wasn’t present for the holidays. At the time, I lived with my stepmom(who I have always just considered “mom”) and four of my siblings.

The family festivities continued, but I could tell there was something wrong. Maybe it was the fact that my mom was stressfully trying to come up with presents for us five kids on a teacher’s salary; or maybe it was just the underlying anxiety of not knowing where dad was.

Come Christmas day, no Dad. In retrospect, that might’ve been the first year that I realized how insignificant physical presents were compared to the presence of the people I loved.

I was told a few days later that he was in prison, and that he had been fighting a drug addiction. I thought parents were supposed to be perfect, and I didn’t understand how his actions weren’t based off the fact that he didn’t love me; they were merely a reflection of his own human inner struggles. So I felt abandoned.

Little did I know that I’d face many more Christmas’ without him. Some years he’d show up, and others he wouldn’t. My uncertainty developed a subconscious fear of the holidays, because it hurt to wonder whether he was going to be there or not.

After a few years, I slightly adapted to my reality and developed happy memories with my mom and siblings, despite the fact that my dad wasn’t around. I am grateful for the amount of love that was shown from various family members throughout that time, and my mom, for holding it together and choosing to take care of me even though she didn’t have to.

Then, the Universe knew I had a higher capacity of strength, and chose to test me once again. I was thirteen, it was early November. I was sat down and told that the woman who had given birth to me, passed away. It might have been the fact that she brought me life, but there was an undeniable feeling of belonging when I was with her. She also faced her own inner conflicts and couldn’t be there for me consistently or the way she wanted to; but she was my mother. I always had hope that she would get better so I could see her more. It hurt in indescribable ways to have that hope ripped away from me. The grief I experienced from that situation extended past Christmas.  I was fortunate enough to have another mother figure(my “step” mom) who has always loved me as her own, and my siblings who always had my back. The truth is though, at that point I was so depressed that I couldn’t see the blessings that were right in front of me. The last thing I wanted to do was celebrate Christmas.

There have been Christmas’ since where I’ve been under the impression that I healed completely. Then there have been others, including this year, where I am reminded how much of an impact those events really had on me. I am not perfect. Although I consider myself an optimistic and conscious person, I too, have had to put effort toward understanding my programs so that I can grow toward my higher potential. Healing is a messy process, one that most don’t want to talk about or acknowledge, especially during the holiday season. When I become aware of my subconscious feelings of abandonment, the last thing I want to do is reach out to the people I love and dampen their holiday spirit.

This year I’ve been feeling energy very intensely. Although it has been quite painful at times, I know that is a part of my growth and awakening. Every time I cry and analyze where my emotions stem from, I feel as though I am shedding a layer of skin. I have spent more time in my apartment than I have in years, but I also feel stronger than I ever have. I recognize the pain I’ve been feeling as an opportunity to grow and understand myself better.

With that being said, if you are experiencing stress, loneliness, or resurfacing emotions during these holidays, I want to reassure that there is nothing wrong with you. Christmas is an exciting time of the year for many, but that doesn’t mean that you need to suppress your feelings to fit in. If anything, this is the time for you to feel out your emotions and get to know where they stem from. This is the only way that you’ll grow and have increasingly better years ahead. Although the people around you might be emphasizing the importance of family events, gift exchanges, and holiday obligations, don’t forget that your mental health should always come first.

For those of you who adore the holidays and don’t get why someone wouldn’t, please keep in mind what this season is really about. It’s about love. Not just the act of showing it through buying presents or hosting parties, but the act of extending your compassion toward those who are having a different experience than you are. After all, stepping in someone’s shoes, allowing them to be heard and noticed: that is one of the most valuable gifts that you can give.

If you’re wondering how I’ve pushed through the worst of the season, and have turned it into a growing experience, all I can really say is that for once, I allowed myself to feel. Instead of pretending that I already have my life all figured out, I got in touch with my inner child and gave her the compassion that she’s been seeking for years. I also gained the courage to reach out to a few people, despite how vulnerable it made me. I calmly let them know what I was going through, and they reminded me that it’s natural and expected to feel the way I do. It empowered me to come face to face with that which has been hiding in the back of my mind for many years.   

As the Christmas illusion comes closer to an end, don’t be afraid to feel. Reach out to those who love you. Utilize your hardships to become a stronger person. In the meantime, do your best to appreciate the beauty of the season, and use it’s magic to help you heal (let’s face it, we’ve all got a little bit of healing to do).

So whether this season is your favorite time of the year or particularly hard for you, don’t forget that love is what it’s all about. The past might hurt, and the future might seem stressful, but living deeply in the moment is love, and the Christmas spirit in it’s true essence.

CBD Oils vs. Smoking Hemp

Why smoking hemp might be your preferred method of consuming CBD

When I used to hear the word “hemp”, my mind would resort to sustainable clothing and my favorite seed milk. I never felt inclined to buy some hemp and roll it up into a joint, and I in fact didn’t even know that it was legal, me being under the age of 21 at the time. That all changed when the CBD trend skyrocketed, and I wondered, if it’s legal and beneficial for me to consume cannabidiol tincture, would it be the same for me to buy and smoke the flower? I would soon find that the answer was yes.

For cannabis to legally be considered hemp, it has to be tested under .3% in THC(tetrahydrocannabinol); meaning it won’t get you high. The concept of smoking something that doesn’t get you high still confuses stoners and conformists alike. Yet everyone and their mothers have been jumping on the CBD oil bandwagon. Don’t get me wrong. CBD tincture is a powerful natural medicine. However, I wanted to explore how smoking hemp, or high CBD flower could provide different, or even more relief to the patient.

After I began frequently adding hemp to my joint, and did some research, I found that smoking CBD has a different effect on the body than orally ingesting it. I am going to explain how and why it has different effects, and allow you to conclude with your own preferred method of ingestion.

Are you seeking long term or quick acting benefit?

One of the reasons smoking hemp has such a different effect than CBD oils is due to the difference in the metabolic pathway, or how it enters your bloodstream. For the CBD to provide benefit through orally ingested products, it has to pass through the GI tract and the liver. This means that it takes longer for CBD oil to bypass the blood brain barrier and take effect. In contrast, smoking hemp sends the CBD directly to your lungs, which creates almost immediate absorption into the bloodstream.

With that being said, orally ingesting CBD can have a longer effect on the body, depending upon the product. So if you’re having an anxiety attack or debilitating pain, smoking hemp will provide near instant relief. If you’re looking for conveniency and long term effects, orally ingesting might be your better option. Smoking flower for immediate alleviation in conjunction with CBD oil to maintain the effects can create a medicinal synchronicity that could be more beneficial than one form of consumption on it’s own.

  CBD absorption: smoking VS. orally consuming

In order to assess which is more potent to the body, we have to the look at the bioavailability in different methods of intake, or degree of which the CBD can be absorbed into the body. There are 6 ways of ingesting cannabidiols, all of which have a different rate of bioavailability. It is important to recognize this because although you might be paying for a 1000mg bottle of CBD oil, your body has a limited capacity of absorption which means you are only able to process 200mg of the bottle, at best. There have been a few varied studies to suggest the bioavailability percentage of oral CBD products is between 6- 20%. Although this is a wide range, the most optimistic percentage is still low compared to that of inhaling cannabidiol, which is up to 56% absorption.

Knowing the bioavailability of each product you consume will allow to calculate how much money you’re actually spending on the CBD that your body is able to absorb. For instance, if you spend $50 on a 200mg bottle of oral CBD oil, and you’re only able to absorb 40mg(at the very max), you’d be spending $1.25 per mg of CBD. If you spend $50 on a product that you’re able to inhale, such as a vape liquid with 200mg of CBD in it, and you’re able to absorb 35%(at the lowest), you’d be spending $.25 per mg of CBD. In other words, you’d be spending 80% more on oral CBD products for the same results.

Although I’d like to give an exact calculation for bud itself, there are countless variables that would go into the equation including the CBD percent of the flower, how long you inhale it, exactly how much you inhale when your burn it, etc. Refer to my sources below, specifically Human Cannabinoid Pharmacokinetics for cited information regarding the high bioavailability rate of smoking CBD bud vs. orally ingesting it.

 CBD has to be heat activated for it to work at its full potential

As I started to see more and more oral CBD products on the shelves, I became curious as to the method of which these businesses were making it. I would check to see if they were using organic carrier oils and hemp product. I was also curious if they were heating the CBD at the necessary temperature for it to be activated properly(decarboxylated), which I knew a little something about from years of making edibles. I was surprised to find that a ton of the most well known companies weren’t. They are selling products that aren’t activated for the consumer to reap the benefits at full potential. Another piece of information that they left off the labels.

It is important to recognize the difference between CBD and CBD-A in order to understand why decarboxylation is done for some products and not others. The hemp plant is naturally grown with CBD-A, and any products that are made raw are actually providing that molecule instead of what their bottle says, which is generally pure CBD. The body is NOT able to convert the product into CBD unless it has been heated at its proper and rather low temperature of 230 degrees.  (see figure 1 on resource #2 listed below)

Although CBD-A does have some vague evidence tied to health benefits, CBD is the molecule that has been scientifically proven to relieve anxiety, depression, inflammation, chronic pain, epilepsy, and cancer in the patient. That being said, if you are interested in CBD for any of the reasons previously listed, I encourage you to do some research before buying any orally ingested products so that you know what you’re taking.

When you smoke CBD hemp flower, you are automatically activating it with the heat of the flame so that your body is able to process it and reap the full benefits of the molecule.


After assessing the longevity of benefits, my ability to absorb the CBD, and the importance of activating the molecule, I was able to conclude with my favorite method of consuming CBD, and I hope this information will help you do the same.  

My personal favorite way to get my dose of CBD’s is by simply buying the flower and smoking it. I’ll either add it to a joint with THC bud, or just smoke it on it’s own if I’m too busy to alter my mind. I  highly suggest smoking hemp to those that enjoy smoking anything(i.e. Tobacco, weed) but want a healthier and calmer alternative.

The good news is that hemp is completely legal to buy, and can even be sent to your mailbox. It is crucial to look for organic, high quality bud so that you will enjoy smoking it and get the most benefit for your buck. Becoming a happier person: 3 easy steps

Reclaiming your happiness

You’re snuggled up under your sheets peacefully snoozing away. Your obnoxious alarm starts making its way into your dreams and before you know it, you’re pressing the snooze button for the third time. One of two things is going on. Either you’re hungover(whether it be from alcohol or an intoxicating work week) or, you’re subconsciously avoiding your reality.

We’ve all been there; hungover, yes, but also, so unenthused about life that we’d rather float around the dream realm instead of hopping out of bed and taking on the day. This feeling is merely a portrayal of life’s ebb & flow. One day we’re on top of the world, and the next day we’re facing inner war.

The good news is that we have complete authority over our minds, although it doesn’t always feel like we do. The trick is to learn how to grab the reins and start controlling your thoughts instead of letting them control you. How, you may ask?

I am going to provide three life changing exercises that have been scientifically proven to increase one’s psychological positivity, also known as happiness. I learned about these tools in my schooling, but I also have personally been using them for years, especially during times when I’ve been stuck in a rut.

I encourage you to frequently implement these exercises in your life whether you’re fighting depression or are simply seeking inner growth.

 

  1. Develop Gratitude

Back to you and your beds love affair: Imagine you waking up, and instead of dreading having to get out of bed, you feel deeply thankful for being alive. Instead of being bored of your daily routine, you pay more attention to the blessings you rarely notice. Is it really necessary to be unhappy?

The likely truth is that there are more miracles in your life than there is affliction. After all, the chances of you being born is 1 in 400 trillion. Although you might be facing challenges in your life, your ability to transform your perspective gives you the option to feel happy at any point.

Practicing gratitude will not only make you instantly feel better, but will help retrain your brain so that it naturally produces more dopamine(the happy chemical).

 

Exercise: Buy yourself a journal or grab some paper. Write down 3-5 things that you’re grateful for. It can be anything. I like to focus on the basics, such as: a roof over my head, food to eat, the energy within me that keeps me alive. That sort of thing. Allow yourself to feel the gratitude as deeply as possible. If you’re prepared to jump into a life of happiness and abundance, start doing this exercise every morning or night(or both!).

 

  1. Learn to breathe

The moment that you were born, you knew to take a breath. You knew that it was your life force without anyone having to tell you. It’s unfortunate that many people grow up and forget the power of the breath.

In today’s society, there are an abundance of distractions that cause people to forget to take full deep breaths throughout the day. The lack of oxygen to the brain leads to stored tension in the muscles. That tension leads to anxiety, which is ultimately a form of depression.

It’s time to let go of the tension. Start placing more focus on your breath, and begin using it as a tool when it seems as though your mind is working against you.

 

Exercise: Take a deep breath. Hold it in for 3 seconds. Let it go until your lungs are empty. Release the tension in your body as you exhale. Repeat. This practice takes less than a minute and can immediately transform your state of mind. When you are driving, take deep breaths. When you wake up, take a few deep breaths. The more you implement this, the more results you’ll see.

 

  1. Sink into the moment

It is easy to assume that once “things get better”, you’ll feel happy. So you might work your butt off to become more successful, or sit around and wait for you life to change, but in truth, that isn’t going to make you happy in the long run.

Happiness starts with right now, in this very moment.

Although the past and the future seem so relevant, they are ultimately illusions. The past is a figment of your memory, and the future is a concept that is yet to exist. The most authentic reality you live in is now.

Remembering this will help you heal from painful memories as well as anxious feelings for what tomorrow brings. It’ll help you become more aware of your current blessings and encourage you to see situations for what they truly are.

 

Exercise: Stop what you’re doing(or thinking) and direct your attention toward your fingers. Do you feel the tingly sensation, the energy running through them? As you feel the sensation, look around the room and notice every detail. Try not to think about what you’re going to do after you’re done reading this article, and rather allow yourself to focus on the moment. The more you do this throughout the day, the more conscious decisions you’ll make. This will be your way of taking control of your mind and naturally becoming a happier person.

 

So there you have it. The solution to your blues. All that is left is for you to decide that you want to be a happier person, and start claiming authority over your headspace.

Although there are a plethora of exercises that could work, these three are the quickest and most powerful ones I know toward reclaiming your enthusiasm for life.

I intend to provide more tips and tricks regarding this topic in the future, but for now, I encourage you to consistently use these steps for improving your life and becoming the very best version of yourself.


How & why I broke up with coffee

Quitting coffee

Imagine waking up feeling groggy and unmotivated. You’d rather stay in your cozy bed than wake up and take on the day. There’s only one thing that’s going to get you through your day, what is it?

Little over  a month ago, my answer would have been an iced americano. That, or a pot of freshly brewed Equadorian roast with coconut milk creamer. Ahh, just thinking about it makes my mouth salivate. However, those days are no more.

You see, I’ve had a wavering relationship with coffee. One day it had me on top of the world, and the next day I felt as though it claimed supremacy over my life. One day it would help me get everything done, and the next it had me feeling lifeless until my cup was refilled.

So I decided to step off the roller coaster and quit coffee all together. I’m just not the type to stick around for love- hate relationships.

There is a ton of contradicting information in the nutritional world regarding whether coffee is health food or not. Some will claim that it has rich antioxidants, promotes a healthy heart, and improves memory function. Other sources will point out that it is acidic which increases free radicals, lowers the immune system, and strips our body of nutrients.

The fact is that your body is incredibly unique. Bio- individuality reveals that one man’s medicine is another man’s poison. So if you feel like coffee genuinely brings benefit to your life, that is a valid observation. If you feel that it’s causing problems with your health or that you’re too dependent on its energy, that is also a valid observation.

What I have come to realize is that coffee is just not the drug for me. I was drinking it frequently to get through long days at work. I’ve always loved the taste and aroma of it, which certainly contributed to my dependency. But after some time, I started to experience adrenal fatigue and my body constantly felt dehydrated. My skin and hair was dull and I was dealing with a perpetual cold. That was when I made the connection; I previously hadn’t been drinking very much coffee, and as soon as I started to drink it more I started experiencing mild health issues.

It took me about 3 days after quitting to lose withdrawal symptoms that included migraines, worsening of my cold, breaking out, and fatigue. As soon as those 3 days were over, I started feeling like myself again. I got out of bed and instead of barely making it to the coffee pot, I was up and going almost immediately. It goes to show how much of an addictive drug coffee can be.

If you are an avid coffee drinker and are ready to reclaim your independence, I have a few tips that will help you recover as soon as possible. Here’s a few actions I took:

1. Quit cold turkey:

Coffee isn’t tobacco or pharmaceuticals; you don’t have to ween off. Although it can be addicting and cause irritating withdrawal symptoms, quitting cold turkey(or all at once) is the way to go. You’ll be surprised how quick your body and energy levels can heal after quitting. I mean, it only took me 3 days! So start by avoiding it all together and you won’t keep getting sucked back into it’s trap.

2. Detoxify:

After drinking coffee on a frequent basis, your body will develop a dependency, meaning it starts to expect that acidic dose of caffeine to hit your bloodstream everyday. If you don’t give your body what it expects, it will produce withdrawal symptoms. To minimize these symptoms, start detoxifying your body with nutrient dense foods. This will get your body back to its natural state and decrease your cravings. Make smoothies, take some spirulina, and drink lots of water.

3. Find a replacement:

I believe there is a way to have a healthy relationship with caffeine by consuming it in moderation. With that being said, there are many delicious drinks and products you can make that will help you feel focused and energized. This will help you ditch coffee once and for all. As soon as I quit coffee, I replaced it with matcha lattes. I love the earthy taste and prefer the energy it gives me over coffee any day. See below for the recipe! Some great replacements are yerba mate, black or green tea, matcha, chai, maca root, green juice, vitamin supplements, ginseng, kombucha, and much more. All can be made into enticing hot or iced drinks that’ll make your forget the roasted bean water and move on with your life!

4. Examine your addiction:

Our bodies are created to hunt for food, escape from predators, and travel the land. That means that you should naturally have enough energy to get through your day. If you feel rather addicted to caffeine or coffee, it might be a good practice to examine why you feel like you need to supplement. Are you getting enough sleep? Have you been eating whole, nutritious meals? Do you get in enough physical activity? If your answer is no to any of those questions, you might be dealing with deep rooted causes that are beyond your daily craving for coffee. This is actually very common. So don’t be hard on yourself, just reflect on any other lifestyle changes that might naturally increase your energy levels. Understanding your cravings is the first step to curbing them.

So whether you’re a die hard coffee chugger or sober off the bean, this is simply a recap of my experiences with quitting. My most important point is that you make intuitive decisions with your healing. You don’t need health articles or varying opinions, your body always knows what’s best. Matcha Latte

This Japanese drink is earthy, lightly sweet, and creamy. It provides a very focused and meditative energy without any crash included. It is rich in antioxidants and studies have shown that it boosts brain function. Recipe can easily be revised to your liking!

 Makes 1 cup

Ingredients:

Herbs & teas:

1 tsp matcha green tea

Liquids:

12 oz. of dairy free milk ~ my favorite is Pacific Vanilla Hemp milk 

½ tsp of honey or agave

Instructions:

  1. If you have a milk frother or stirrer, simply mix the matcha and about 4 oz of milk. If your don’t have one, mix the matcha with a tiny bit of boiling water.
  2. Add the honey, mix in.
  3. Add the rest of the milk in cup.
  4. Either add ice or heat up in a stove/microwave.
  5. Enjoy!

4 Ways to Love Yourself on a Deeper Level

  1. Give yourself the compassion you seek from others:
  • It’s easy to fall into the victim’s mindset of expecting others to cater to to your happiness
  • Imagine the comfort and validation that you seek from others, now give it to yourself
  • Do the same in the physical world. Think of all the things you wish others would give you. Now give those things to yourself.

 

  1. Explore your past and forgive yourself for what has occurred:
  • The first step is to acknowledge those events that you’ve been suppressing, perhaps only being brought up at your lowest of moments
  • Imagine if someone you love had told you they had gone through all of the things you have, give yourself the compassion and forgiveness that you’d give them
  • We’ve all done things out of our set of morals and you’d be surprised by how much subconscious anger you can develop for yourself based off the mistakes that you know are apart from your true character

 

  1. Understand the miracle that you are even alive:
  • Understand that the odds of you existing are mathematically zero, and the divinity in your existence is essentially the Universe experiencing itself through you
  • Whenever you feel down on yourself for the way you look or something that you did, focus on the energy that is sustainably providing a current for you heart to beat and brain cells firing- there’s magic within you
  • The only body you’ll be with for the rest of your life is yours- learn to appreciate

 

  1. Self care: eating, exercising, treating your body as a temple:
  • It is impossible to perform at our highest potential or feel sustainable happiness if our bodies are not being taken care of properly, similarly to the regular attention you have to give to a car
  • Start identifying the ways you wish you’d eat/exercise/treat yourself, now just do it because your only barrier is limiting thoughts
  • Treat your body as an experiment and a temple- make whatever changes necessary and recognize the cellular beauty of your unique existence

Happiness is a Choice

I was in my sacred space, my loft bedroom looking over the coastal forest. I felt like I had just recovered from a storm, because for the first time in a long time, I was content with my life. The reason why: I realized happiness was within me, after being under a spell of thinking it is dependent upon my external situations.

 I had spent years of my childhood waiting for my life to get better, because as soon as I could reach the stage of understanding the context of life’s events, I wasn’t always given the prettiest pictures. Most people aren’t. That is where perspective becomes our most useful tool.

We’re all on different walks of life, experiencing many variables and having different reactions to the same events. That is what makes us unique. Our complex pathways made up of even the tiniest of decisions. Yet there is a commonality we all share, which is the ability to just be.

When you finally get a moment of peace and understanding is when you have gained a new perspective. Because you see, while looking over the forest and feeling content, I could have made up some story in my head as to why life still wasn’t good enough. But I didn’t. I chose sit in the moment and allow my self-made happiness permeate my mind. We all have this miraculous power within us; to create an oasis from our thoughts and problems.

I challenge you to sit with yourself. Feel the energy running throughout your body, feel the natural tingling sensation at the tip of your fingers. Allow yourself to feel happy. You don’t have to have any specific reason to feel content, other than the fact that you’re breathing right now. There’s a divine energy within you that is helping your heart pump and your brain neurons fire. That is enough to feel grateful for.

Whatever you are going through, I hope you continue to love yourself and remember that you are not your life’s events. You are separate from the drama in your life, but connected to everyone and everything around you. And when you’re overwhelmed with your surroundings, just close your eyes and let your breath be your escape.

An Intro to CBD

When I started smoking pot at a young age and was lectured at, my excuse was always that it is healthy, it helps me sleep, and it makes me happier. At the time, I said that but I didn’t know the extent to that truth, and probably mostly smoked it out of rebellion. Now, years later, I have gone through my fair share of bud, and continue to use it, however more aware and educated of the benefits it has.  

One aspect of marijuana that I learned is that it’s made up of more than 400 chemical entities.The most commonly known and strongest link to your “high” is called tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. There are products that you can buy that essentially have separated compounds of marijuana for different medical purposes. That’s right, you can reap the benefits of marijuana without getting stoned. If this had been more commonly known when I was a teenager, maybe I wouldn’t have had an excuse to get high!

A recently trendy and essential compound of the marijuana plant is called Cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD. It can be taken in the form of oils, capsules, hemp pre-rolls and bud, edibles, and so much more. The best part: it’s legal. An 18 year old could potentially order high CBD/low THC weed online and face no consequences- as long as their parents are chill with it of course.

I take CBD oil on a daily basis, about 50mg a day and sometimes more if I’m dealing with soreness or cramps. There’s a lot I could write about it, and will probably cover it in more depth in future articles, but here’s a quick understanding of what CBD is and how it could potentially change your quality of life:

  1. It can heal your body and mind:

  • preventing the growth of free radicals(which are the cause of cancer)
